Gardening with JiliK: Propagator! Mount Up Edition

I’m sure it’s going to end in disaster (and potentially flames), but I’ve decided I’m going to try my hand at a bit of gardening this year. Growing a few herbs indoors seemed like a safe enough place to start, so a couple of weeks ago I ordered a cheap little propagator, a bunch of seeds and a few other bits and bobs on Amazon. Finally got everything I needed on Monday and yesterday I was ready to start sowing.

So, in here I’ve got parsley, basil, sage, rosemary, chives, thyme, coriander, and dill; all sown a bit of general-purpose compost. I’ve been told that one seed’s enough for each slot, but I don’t know, for some of the really small ones it seemed to make more sense to put a little pinch of them in there, so I did. Eh, what’s the worst that can happen? :D With two sets of each seed planted (always good to have a backup) and a little water sprinkled over the compost (which was already fairly damp; didn’t want to water log them already), I popped on the plastic lid and put the propagator on a window that gets a fair amount of sun. Well, as much sun as it’s going to get in the west of Ireland in March anyway.

The idea of the propagator is that it’ll act as a mini greenhouse, the heat from which will hopefully get the seeds to grow (I’ve got a couple of window boxes to transfer the eventual plants to, should the occasion ever arise. :D). After 24 hours there obviously isn’t much to report yet, but I’ve decided to take that condensation as a sign of progress. :)
